The benefits of code reviewing sessions
Code reviewing sessions are very effective for finding defects and improving code quality. They also have a great educational value, since they open opportunities for senior developers to give advice to juniors, and for junior developers to bring in fresh ideas. Also, they give all developers involved a better overview of the parts of the code they are not actively working on, so that they can put their own code in the right perspective.
Many software development teams don't hold code reviewing sessions at all, or only very occasionally. And if they do hold them, the reviews are not as effective as they could be. This is a pity, because although reviewing sessions take some time, they save even more time—when done properly.
Get started with effective code reviews
We put your code reviewing process on track by working with you for a brief time. We'll discuss with you how to prepare, how participants should give constructive feedback that is not perceived as unpleasant or threatening, how to proceed during the review meeting, how to deal with defects or issues found, and how to follow up. Depending on your preference, we'll either act as moderator during the reviewing session, or instruct one of your senior developers to take this role. We'll also take part in the reviewing and give feedback on your code, as an independent outsider.
Once the reviewing process is over, we'll have a short debriefing with you, where we discuss how things went, an where we give you additional advice on how to make your successive code review sessions effective and valuable.
